Ball State students cross the pond for Olympics: The Facts
BSU at the Games is a group of more than 40 students from Ball State University in Muncie, Ind. who will be traveling to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. This opportunity will allow students to gain unparalleled career experience in journalism, telecommunications, photojournalism, public relations and graphic design.
Preparation took place during the 2012 spring academic semester and continues throughout the summer. Students will be in London July 23 through Aug. 15.
BSU at the Games is part of the university’s immersive learning initiative. The group aspires to be a top news outlet for coverage of the Games.
Student reporters, photographers and graphic designers will travel to the many Olympic venues throughout London and the surrounding areas in search of unique, behind-the-scenes stories about the sports, people and places of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.
Their work is featured at www.london.bsuatthegames.com and includes frequently updated stories, photographs and blog posts. @BSUattheGames is also on Twitter and Facebook, consistently providing updates of Olympic coverage and recent news posts. Ryan Sparrow, instructor of journalism, is the primary adviser for this course. Additional advisers include features editor Colleen Steffen, instructor of journalism, and sports editor Chris Taylor, instructor of telecommunications, sports immersion and multimedia.
During the three-week stay, students will reside in newly built student dorms in Worcester, England, located about two hours northwest of London. Nearby towns are Oxford and the Shakespearian centre of Stratford-Upon-Avon.
